Best Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) Providers in San Antonio (2026)

San Antonio clinicians who describe Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) on their own websites, and what the evidence shows about ART.

Disclosure: this guide is published by The Denning Center, and Jim Denning, MA, LPC, is listed first because it is his practice's website. That placement is not a claim that he is more skilled or more effective than anyone else here. The other practices were chosen using the criteria below; none of them paid to be included, and none reviewed this page.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an eye-movement therapy developed in 2008. Like EMDR, it uses sets of eye movements while you hold a memory in mind. It also adds "voluntary image replacement", where you change the distressing images the memory has left you with, and it does not require you to describe the event out loud in detail. It is often delivered in fewer sessions than other trauma therapies, although how many anyone needs varies.

The honest caveat is that ART's research base is smaller and newer than the research behind CPT, prolonged exposure or EMDR, and much of it comes from military and veteran samples. The VA/DoD's 2023 PTSD guideline rates the evidence as insufficient to recommend for or against it, and a 2024 systematic review found it "shows some promise" but called for more high-quality studies. Many people choose it because it asks for less spoken detail. Knowing where the evidence stands is part of choosing well.

Finding other ART clinicians

The Rehaboo / ART International provider directory lists clinicians trained in ART. Some local listings there are out of date, with old addresses or clinicians who no longer mention ART on their own sites, so check the practice's own website before you call.

Questions people ask

How many ART sessions will I need?

ART is often delivered in fewer sessions than other trauma therapies, but there is no fixed number, and anyone who promises one before assessing you is overpromising. Complex or repeated trauma usually takes longer than a single event.

Is ART the same as EMDR?

No. They are related but different. Both use eye movements. ART is more structured, adds image replacement, and asks for less spoken detail. EMDR has a larger research base and stronger guideline recommendations. See ART vs EMDR for a fuller comparison.

What is an ART intensive?

It is ART delivered in long sessions over one to a few days, instead of weekly. Some people prefer the concentrated format. It is usually private pay, and it is worth asking what support is in place in the days afterward.
